Great Uncle Taken from Surviving Soldiers Census 1890 From the Scotts Paper January 28, 1909 "Albert Hawkins was born in the state of Vermont, February 4, 1843, and passed away at his home in Scotts, January 24th, 1909, after only a few days illness of pneumonia, aged 65 years, 11months, 20 days. He was married to Miss Adelia White in 1866. One son was born to them , Frank, how deceased. When a small boy his parents moved to Canada where they remained several years, in 1860 he moved to Michigan with has parents, and has been a resident of this vicinity most of the time since. He served three years in the Civil War with Company K, 10th Michigan Cavalry and was confined in Libby prison six months. He has been proprietor of the Hawkins Hotel here for twenty-four years with the exception of a year spent in Toledo, Oho, and a few months in Kalamazoo, the past summer. He was a good neighbor, a kind and honest man and a staunch democrat and will be missed by the few remaining brothers of the G.A.R and a large circle of friends. Besides the widow, he is survived by three grand-children, Ferne, Helen and Francis and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mayme Hawkins. The funeral services were held at the home, Tuesday afternoon at 2:00.
