4.2- inch Army Parrott Rifle 1862 4235 lbs

Per: Wayne Stark January 29, 1999

That Parrott rifle was donated to Col. Lumbard (or Lombard-it is spelled both ways in my sources) GAR Post #170 in 1897. It was shipped from New York Arsenal (Governors Island) per order #22181 dated 10 November 1897.

The usual scenario is that is was probably mounted in front of the GAR Post until the last vets died. Not knowing what else to do with it, and being of no use to whoever used the building next, the cannon was moved to the cemetery and mounted near the Civil War graves. I don't know if that is exactly what happened with this one, but that is how most of the Civil War cannons got mounted in cemeteries (62% of surviving cannons not under the control of a gov't unit).
